Our first birthday – thanks to all of you!

A year. Twelve months. 52 weeks (plus an extra day). 365 days. 8,760 hours. 525,600 minutes. I won’t bother listing seconds because that’s a really big number and the novelty’s worn off for both of us by now anyway.

But that’s how long Brisbanite has been up for. Believe or not, our first birthday has come around already!

Luckily, websites grow and mature at a much quicker rate than humans. We're proud to say that a good 85% of us at Brisbanite are toilet-trained.

It’s been a crazy and hectic 525,600 minutes at times, but we’ve had a lot of fun come with our work. It’s been really great to see our site find a niche out there in cyberspace, make a bit of a name for itself, and become something that Brisbanites and friends of Brisbane enjoy using both to find out what’s going on and for a bit of light relief.

When Brisbanite first launched itself way back on October 1, 2010 (with my first weekly the very first bit of content to sit on it), I was excited about what might lay ahead for me and the Brisbanite team as we set forth to offer something a bit different from both the directories, review sites and leisure blogs out there, but unsure – as we all are when undertaking a new challenge or adventure – about where the road would go. And thanks to the constant support and visits from all of you Brisbanites and honorary Brisbanites who have been using us to see what’s on, send us news and information, promote their events and businesses and/or read up on our comings and goings, we have gone from strength to strength and as such are today really pleased to say that we are a site for Brisbane. We can’t thank each and everyone of you enough for your support in the past, present and future to helps us get to where we are today – but thank you. Thank you all very much. We couldn’t have made Brisbanite what it is today, or keep making it what it is today, without the work that you guys do on the other side of the admin pages and servers.

Let's all have a group hug now! Aww, feel the love... *beat* ...three, four, five. Okay, that's probably long enough. Let's break it up a bit, now.

And with that, I feel it’s a good time and opportunity to segue – for you see, over the last few weeks you’ve probably noticed some big changes on our site. Not just to the layout, but to the content – because of the quickly-growing support we’ve been getting from our fans and community, we are able to provide you with more information, more events and more reviews and material than ever before. And over the coming months we’ll keep on expanding and changing our site as we keep up with the demand and popularity. So as I took the opportunity earlier to reflect on our first year as a site and to thank all of you wonderful visitors and contributors, I would also like to take this opportunity to ask you to be not just our greatest supporters, but our good critical friends. Please let us know how you think the site is going. Please feel free to let us know what you think of the layout. Don’t hesitate to let us know what to focus on and what we should change on the site. And please, don’t be afraid to approach us about contributing, too. Brisbanite is first and foremost a community site and we always want to share our site’s potential with our growing community and all within it.

So once again, thanks for a year of good times, good feedback and good help. Hopefully our next year on the net will be just as fun and as successful as this inaugural one has been!

Luke
